Ann Harris is a Certified Grief Educator, animal trainer and founder of PerPETual Love. She is the author of PerPETual Love – Forever In Your Heart.
Her work brings together more than 35 years with animals and her own experience of pet loss. She talks about why pet-loss grief can feel so overwhelming, the euthanasia decisions owners face, the guilt and regret that often follow, and how to support a child through the loss of a pet.
She also works with veterinary teams on some of the hardest conversations they face: what to say after a pet has died, and how to respond when a grieving client becomes angry or lays blame on the team. That work has two sides — supporting the client, and reducing the toll these conversations can take on vets, vet nurses, technicians, receptionists and practice managers.

Ann also shares her own experience of losing Matilda, how that loss changed the direction of her work, and how PerPETual Love grew from it.

The VET Expo 2026 – ICC Sydney
On 9 September 2026, Ann presented at The VET Expo in Sydney on both sides of pet-loss support: helping veterinary teams better support grieving clients while also recognising the emotional toll this work can place on the team themselves.
The presentation covered euthanasia and grief conversations, guilt, ways to respond when grief turns to anger or blame, practical words veterinary teams can use with clients, and free support clients can access after leaving the clinic.
Ann’s veterinary work now includes the free 6-Step Pet Loss Support Pathway for clinics and her CPD course, Supporting Pet Owners Through Loss – While Looking After Yourself Too, which carries 1 CPD point through AVA VetEd and 1.25 AVNAT CPD points for veterinary nurses and technicians.

Released in March 2025, PerPETual Love – Forever In Your Heart grew from Ann’s experience of losing Matilda and her years of working with animals and pet owners.
The book explores pet loss, anticipatory grief, euthanasia decisions, guilt and regret, supporting children, and ways to remember an animal after they have passed.

Her television appearances have included The Living Room, Better Homes & Gardens and Australia’s Got Talent, alongside other media and advertising work involving her animals.
